This is just a friendly reminder that our Confederation Conference is THIS THURSDAY. Please make sure that you come prepared. You will be meeting me in the gym right at 8:55 and I will be giving you time to set up until 9:15.

So next Thursday is our much anticipated Confederation Conference. It is incredibly important that we use our time well in order to prepare for it.
Keep in mind that you need to negotiate with the other provinces the terms of Confederation. We will be voting on each issue related to the establishment of a railway, free trade, language rights and whatever else you guys think is important to discuss.
But remember -- have fun with it! Groups in the past came dressed up, created posters and pamphlets to distribute and even brought samples of products that the provinces had to offer (e.g., potatoes and wheat for example).
I'm really looking forward to this so good luck and we'll see you on Thursday!

You and your group are responsible for creating a short media presentation to share your province's background with the rest of your class and your demands/conditions for joining Confederation.

Confederation test. You'll need to know whether the American Threat was
real (hint, hint): Fenian Raids, Annexation Bill, Chesapeake Incident, St. Alban's Raid and Manifest Destiny.
Also you'll be expected to have an
understanding of the external and internal factors including: the Repeal of the Corn Laws, The End of Reciprocity, "Little
Englanders," and the Need for a Railway.

Over the weekend, make sure you log into my Drop Box account and access both folders "The Fenians" and "The Annexation Bill.
For the Fenians, I want you to read the article and have a look at the political cartoon called "Uncle Same and his Boys." Who do you think Uncle Sam (U.S.) represents? How would you describe him in one word? What is the fence symbolic of? We'll deconstruct this political cartoon in depth next class.
As far as the Annexation Bill goes, read the Bill (focus on WHERE it's coming from and WHO it's about). Answer questions 1 & 2 for the guided questions. Remember, there MAY be a homework check!
