December 9

Ensure that you complete the two questions for homework:

1. Create a Venn diagram to illustrate the differences and similarities between the Metis, Europeans and Aboriginals.

-Mr. Charalambous

December 3

Don't forget that on Thursday, we'll be having an assessment on your understanding of the Confederation Conference. You'll need to know what the issues were, what your province wanted and what the other provinces were concerned with.

-Mr. Charalambous

November 26

Just a friendly reminder. Our Confederation Conference is THIS THURSDAY. Make sure you're prepared and you come early for set up. I will be in the gym from 7:45 to give you the time to set up for the Conference.

-Mr. C

November 21

So next Thursday is our much anticipated Confederation Conference. It is incredibly important that we use our time well in order to prepare for it.

Keep in mind that you need to negotiate with the other provinces the terms of Confederation. We will be voting on each issue related to the establishment of a railway, free trade, language rights and whatever else you guys think is important to discuss.

But remember -- have fun with it! Groups in the past came dressed up, created posters and pamphlets to distribute and even brought samples of products that the provinces had to offer (e.g., potatoes and wheat for example).

I'm really looking forward to this so good luck and we'll see you on Thursday!

-Mr. Charalambous

November 13

What luck! Tomorrow is a Friday schedule so our presentations are being delayed one more time. Next Monday, November 18, rain or shine, we are getting through these presentations!

-Mr. Charalambous

November 11

Due to today's Remembrance Day Assembly, we'll be presenting our preliminary presentations on Thursday instead.

-Mr. C

November 7

On Monday your preliminary presentations are due. Make sure that everybody has a copy of the presentation!

-Mr. Charalambous

November 4

Next Monday, November 11, you will be presenting your province's preliminary proposal for joining Confederation to the class. You and your group are responsible for creating a short media presentation to share your province's background with the rest of your class and your demands/conditions for joining Confederation.

You will have an opportunity next class to continue working on your presentation. All other work has to be done outside of class time.

-Mr. Charalambous

October 17

Our first history "quest" is around the corner. Next Monday, October 21st, we'll have our Factors of Confederation test. You'll need to know whether the American Threat was real (hint, hint): Fenian Raids, Annexation Bill, Chesapeake Incident, St. Alban's Raid and Manifest Destiny.

Also you'll be expected to have an understanding of the external and internal factors including: the Repeal of the Corn Laws, The End of Reciprocity, "Little Englanders," and the Need for a Railway.

Make sure to start reviewing your notes and access Drop Box for any readings you may have missed!

-Mr. Charalambous

October 16

If you haven't completed your jigsaw task on the economic factors of Confederation, make sure you access my Drop Box account and under "economic factors" you can find all the readings related to it: Repeal of the Corn Laws, End of Reciprocity...etc.

Your test is next Monday!

Mr. Charalambous

October 7

Visit my Drop Box account and have a look at the economic factors that lead to Confederation. Keep in mind that your "notes" sheet needs to be completed by Thursday and our test is a mere week or so away.

-Mr. Charalambous

September 26

Complete questions 1-5 on the Chesapeake Incident. We'll take it up next time we see you -- but be prepared for a political cartoon "quiz." Don't worry through; it's just for feedback!

Enjoy your trip!

-C

P.S. We've wrapped up looking at one of the first factors of Confederation: The American Threat. Remember to regularly review the five things we looked at within the "factor," i.e., The Fenian Raids, the Annexation Bill, the St. Albans Incident, Annexation by Railway and finally, the Chesapeake Incident.

September 19

Over the weekend, make sure you log into my Drop Box account and access both folders "The Fenians" and "The Annexation Bill.

For the Fenians, I want you to read the article and have a look at the political cartoon called "Uncle Same and his Boys." Who do you think Uncle Sam (U.S.) represents? How would you describe him in one word? What is the fence symbolic of? We'll deconstruct this political cartoon in depth next class.

As far as the Annexation Bill goes, read the Bill (focus on WHERE it's coming from and WHO it's about). Answer questions 1 & 2 for the guided questions. Remember, there MAY be a homework check!

-Mr. Charalambous

September 16

Complete questions 2, 3 and 4 (only the first two columns) in the handout that was given today. We'll be taking them up next class.

-C

September 12

Make sure you complete the handout on the caricatures and answer the three questions.

-Mr. Charalambous
