They were quick to "read," simple to understand and quite often, even humorous to look at.
But as we will see in the upcoming weeks, these early political cartoons often touched on sensitive issues and exposed racism and intolerance in Canadian society. As we have seen, too often societies make the same mistakes again and again. Our goal is to learn how to read these political cartoons (yes, we are reading) and begin to make sense of the world around us. By the end of this unit, you will be able to read these illustrations and even have the opportunity to create one of your own as we continue to explore issues in immigration in Canada.
